As a 2026 World Cup organization candidate, the kingdom of Morocco envisages investing on its territory in high-level sport equipment. This project presents a worldwide feature as it aims at welcoming this international football event and is going to be a real showcase for the country, a commitment providing access to anyone to exceptional sport events. Our approach as a result is ambitious and daring: we would like to transform the stadium into a symbol of modernity enriched by the unique Moroccan culture. Just as several projects carried out by REC, our team designed the equipment suggesting a deep bond with the Oujda territory. We are convinced that a dialogue between local culture and the future stadium is a fundamental premise. The appearance of the equipment that should fit an international context is often impersonal, neglecting its local culture to put the stress on a western featured architecture, oblivious of its local accents. The big stadium of Oujda will mirror its own culture. The bond with Morocco that each one will be able to interpret through its drawn lines, colours and lights will put forward a dimension that has been rather unknown until now. Our architectural vision will be meaningful and anchored in its context, conveyed by contemporary curves drawing inspiration from fundamental elements of the region. To translate this idea into a project, we drew inspiration among other places from the Lalla Aicha Park, an example of urban planning of the old Oujda, and from the light diaphanous haïk veil, covering the women of the region. The sponsor of the project too, Mr Benazzi Abdelatif, native of Oujda, contributes to support the history of this future stadium with his personal sport career, which began in the very park Lalla Aicha. Finally, the kingdom of Morocco, which organized the cop22, put the emphasis on an environmental version for all this key equipment. The stadium of Oujda is perfectly in tune with this international awareness being eligible for an eventual certification acknowledged worldwide.
